i like to imagine that kanade keeps spending WAY too much money on various music software, plugins and equipment to the point that niigo + honami have to stop her so she still has some left to buy basic necessities, girlie literally has no sense of self control when it comes to anything music related
(niigo whilst out on a day-trip where they happen to walk past a music shop)
Kanade: “Wait a minute, I think I just saw a vintage synth I’ve been reading about online and—“
Ena: “—No we are NOT doing this again—“
as a result, her house is cluttered with the most random of instruments: you need a violin?, a guitar? a theramin? a freaking OTAMATONE??? she’ll gladly lend you some of her stuff if requested
(kanade and honami whilst talking about a new leo/need song that’s in the works)
Honami: “The drum part for this section is really nice! It’s shame that I can’t play it for you right now…”
Kanade: “Hm, I think I have a few drum kits stored in the closet that you can use if you want.”
Honami: “Wait what, they’re really expensive though?!”
Kanade:
IM ACTUALLY CRYING THIS IS SO FUNNY NEW HEADCANON
kanade opens her closet and thousands of old music stuff comes flying out in a wave

I'm a little confused, what trouble did the Internet Archive get into exactly?
By this I mean, is it going down? Or is it just dealing with politics behind the scenes?
(I occasionally find the Internet Archive to be useful, so I hope it doesn't disappear)
Okay, so, it helps to have context here. First, IA.
IA has its fingers in several pies:
the Wayback Machine (and allied services such as Archive-It) for website preservation
software (including game) preservation
print digitization, which started (I think) as an add-on to software preservation (because manuals matter!) and expanded to pretty much whatever print IA could get its hands on
a lending system for the above digitized collection, known as the "Open Library"
lately, machine-learning tools intended to operate over its digitized-print collections (it's still building this out, I've seen some of the grant applications) -- nothing generative-AI-like yet that I know of, however
A lot of this work is only dubiously and uncertainly within the scope of US copyright. (N.b. IANAL, IANYL, I am certainly not Internet Archive's lawyer, TINLA.) IA takes refuge largely in audacity, and in the centrality of the Wayback Machine to web preservation generally. So they have been known to pull the "if we lose this legal case totally unrelated to web preservation and have to pay gonzo fines, Wayback is in peril!" ripcord.
Is this true? Hell if I know, I don't audit IA's books. I doubt it, though.
What they're in trouble for -- what an appeals court shot them all the way down for yesterday -- is what they did with their Open Library of digitized print books, many of them in-copyright, during COVID lockdown. And to understand all that, we have to untangle some things about US copyright. Ugh, somebody hand me a read-more link.
Why can libraries lend print books, vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and DVDs in the US? Because of a legal doctrine called "the first sale right," which goes like this: if you have a legally-produced physical object containing copyrighted material, you can do whatever the fuck you want with that physical object with zero copyright implications --other than reproduce/copy or perform it (which does have copyright implications, complex ones).
You can (yes) burn it. You can lend it to a friend, or an enemy, or a random stranger. You can give it away. You can throw it away. You can resell it. You can hang it on your wall or in your window. You can make an art installation with it. And the copyright owner cannot win a copyright-based lawsuit over any of this, even if they hate what you're doing! Even if it competes with them selling new copies (as the resale market absolutely does, and as some jerkfaced copyright owners -- usually corporations, not authors! -- love to complain that libraries do)!
Here's the thing, though, and it's an important thing so I'm gonna big-type it:
The right of first sale does not apply to anything digital ever.
Not ebooks (digitized or born-digital, doesn't matter). Not streaming anything. Not paywalled online news or research.
When libraries offer these to patrons, it's through contracts with publishers or aggregators. Long story short, a lot of these contracts are ridiculously restrictive (not to mention expensive) to the point of cartoonish evil, but it's what we have to work with.
The idea behind Controlled Digital Lending is "if libraries purchased a physical item legally, we should get to lend the item to one person at a time as we always have, and it shouldn't actually matter whether what we lend is the physical item or a digital version of it, as long as only one or the other is out to a patron at a given time."
Which is an untested legal theory! I can't tell you whether it's legal! Nobody can! The case law doesn't exist! Yeah yeah, there's relevant past cases in both directions having to do with accessibility or Google Books or whatever, but a specific precedential ruling on CDL is not a thing that presently exists.
No, not even now. Because what IA did with its Open Library during lockdown, and got slapped down for by the court, is not CDL as defined above. IA didn't hold to one-person-at-a-time-per-book. They tried to make a fair-use argument for what they actually did (that is, not for actual CDL), and the court was not having it.
The thing is, IA's stumblebummed legal fuckup means that actual CDL, as actual libraries (n.b. the IA is not an actual library or an actual archives, I will happily die on this hill, I loathe IA like poison and do not want to admit them to my profession, IA people have dissed me and my work TO MY ACTUAL PHYSICAL FACE and they only love libraries or librarians when trying to hide behind us) were trying to design and implement it, now faces additional legal hurdles. Any court looking at an actual CDL program has to take into account IA getting slapped down. And that's if we can even find a library or library consortium with deep enough pockets and hardcore enough legal representation to even defend such a case.
The thing also is, IA just issued Big Publishing a gilt-edged invitation to use this precedent to sue actual libraries, especially academic libraries, over other things we do. (I'm gonna pass over exactly what in silence because I do not want to give those fuckers ideas, but... there have been past lawsuits, look 'em up.) THANKS, BREWSTER. THANKS EVER SO. Asshole.
For a calmer take than mine, check out Library Futures, which to their credit has not given up all hope for CDL.
This IS the short version of all this nonsense, believe me. I used to teach a whole entire three-credit graduate-level course in the long version. (Which IA would doubtless diss to my face if they knew about it.)

Next Evidence - “Dune” Stockholm Mix Sessions 2 by Jesper Dahlbäck Song released in 1999. Mix released in 2000. Deep House
It’s kinda strange how you can’t find a proper bio about this French deep house duo anywhere. You’d think that when an enormous major label like Capitol/EMI puts out someone’s album, it’d help to generate some kind of fanfare for the artist, but it doesn’t really appear to have done so in the case of Next Evidence; at least not to the point where some professional music writer publishes a few sentences online about what the duo does and where they’re from. All we really have to go on here is a poorly written, unverified thing from some last.fm user. Crazy.
But allow me to piece together a narrative here that differs slightly from that last.fm entry. Next Evidence was made up of Maxime Cohen and Michael Tordjman. In ‘97, while they were both in their mid-20s, the pair put out their debut record, and in '98, they started their own small record label, Basic Recordings, which ended up releasing material from a handful of house talents, including Julien Jabre and Dennis Ferrer.
The following year, with five releases solidly under their belt as a duo, Next Evidence put out an EP called Sands on the Paris-based Versatile Records. And it’s on that little EP that you’ll find a deep house banger of theirs called “Dune.”
Now, what appears to have sonically set Next Evidence apart from most of their fellow deep house peers is that they had a special affinity for African percussion. While most deep house makers were just using standard drum machines or software to construct their backbeats, these guys were on some different shit, making sure that just the basest parts of their own productions were unique enough to catch and then captivate one’s ear. And that approach, when it comes to just the music itself, will definitely give you a leg up on your competition, because at jump, when all you’ve really introduced is your drums, you’re already putting out something that doesn’t sound like most of what else is out there, and your tune’s barely even gotten started yet! And that’s not to say that others weren’t also using African percussion in their deep house at the time, but it definitely wasn’t nearly as commonplace as other methods of crafting a backbeat.
So, next, you add some space-dubby synth-work to the track, and then by making some slight alterations here and there, you can just coast on that combo for as long as you’d like and you’ll still have a mighty fine track, right? Well, yeah, you could do that, but Next Evidence had other ideas, because just as you really start to sink yourself into this groove for the long haul, they decide to unexpectedly seep in some fantastically sex-wet jazz sax, courtesy of some French dude named Denis Guivarc'h, who’d apparently been lending his talents to records for years before this one and still does to this day. He’s doesn’t appear to have ever released anything on his own, but you can hear his exploits on a sizeable chunk of releases that have been coming out since the early 90s.
And then after Guivarc'h finishes his part, a new top layer of percussion suddenly arrives, courtesy of a guy named Nicolas Krassilchik, who provides an awesome solo on timbales, further enhancing this experience even more. According to Discogs, this was only Krassilchik’s second-ever appearance on wax, but it sure as shit doesn’t sound like it, because his contribution here is simply electric. And Krassilchik is another guy who’s never released anything on his own either, although he was a member of a group called 26 Pinel, who ended up putting out a couple albums in the mid-2000s.
This fully-packed track is amazing. Like, I would’ve totally dug it if it was just only made up of those drums and synths; it was that good already. But then Cohen and Tordjman decide to bring in those back-to-back sax and timbales solos, and the song just ascends to another plane 😌.
What a superb tune from this duo who you can barely find anything about online, even though they’ve had a major label album release!

Hurricane Milton strengthens into a Category 5 as Florida begins evacuations (AP) Milton rapidly strengthened into a Category 5 hurricane Monday in the Gulf of Mexico on a path toward Florida, threatening a dangerous storm surge in Tampa Bay, leading to evacuation orders and long gas lines, and lending more urgency to the cleanup from Hurricane Helene, which swamped the same stretch of coastline less than two weeks ago. The storm’s center could come ashore Wednesday in the Tampa Bay area, and it could remain a hurricane as it moves across central Florida toward the Atlantic Ocean, forecasters say.
Growing the debt (NPR) A new report has found that both Harris’ and Trump's economic plans would increase the national debt. According to the nonpartisan nonprofit Committee for Responsible Federal Budget, Trump's plan would add an estimated $7.5 trillion to the nation's debt over the next decade, while Harris' proposals would cost the government an estimated $3.5 trillion. The committee has cautioned that there could be a future fiscal crisis if politicians do not take more decisive action on the national debt.
Police seldom disclose use of facial recognition despite false arrests (Washington Post) Hundreds of Americans have been arrested after being connected to a crime by facial recognition software, a Washington Post investigation has found, but many never know it because police seldom disclose their use of the controversial technology. Police departments in 15 states provided The Post with rarely seen records documenting their use of facial recognition in more than 1,000 criminal investigations over the past four years. According to the arrest reports in those cases and interviews with people who were arrested, authorities routinely failed to inform defendants about their use of the software—denying them the opportunity to contest the results of an emerging technology that is prone to error, especially when identifying people of color.
Juvenile Cyber Criminals (WSJ) The February 2022 hack of AI chip-maker Nvidia was one of the strangest cases ever. Someone—or some group—had stolen the crown jewels from one of the world’s most important tech companies and then acted like a bunch of kids on Telegram. They said they’d stolen some “juicy ass source code,” and demanded that Nvidia make its products easier for videogame players to use. It turned out that the Nvidia hackers acted like kids because they were, in fact, kids. They’re part of a new cybersecurity community that has become a bigger and bigger problem for law enforcement over the past few years. Calling themselves the Com, the kids have moved from giving each other grief in online games to stealing cryptocurrency and extorting some of the world’s most important companies, including Microsoft, Samsung, Uber and Rockstar Games. One of these hackers was Arion Kurtaj. Last year, fearing Kurtaj would simply never stop hacking, a British judge ordered him confined to a secure mental-health ward until doctors deem him to no longer be a public danger. Kurtaj was 17 when he hacked Nvidia, but he was just 11 when he started his life of cybercrime. He’s now the most notorious member of the Com. Other members are often so young that they have little fear of incarceration. They’re also so destructive that it’s hard to predict what they will do when they break into a computer network. A few months before the Nvidia hack, Kurtaj and his associates had deleted Brazil’s database of Covid vaccinations.
Mexican mayor assassinated days after taking office (Reuters) The mayor of the capital of Mexico’s violence-plagued state of Guerrero was killed on Sunday less than a week after he took office, the state’s governor confirmed. Alejandro Arcos was killed just six days after he took office as mayor of the city of Chilpancingo, a city of around 280,000 people in southwestern Mexico. The official confirmation came after photos circulated on messaging app WhatsApp depicting a severed head on top of a pick-up truck, appearing to be that of Arcos. Guerrero has become one of the deadliest states for aspiring and elected public officials, as well as for journalists.
Freed Russian arms dealer Bout back in weapons business, WSJ reports (Reuters) Viktor Bout, the Russian arms dealer who was jailed in the United States and then swapped two years ago for the U.S. basketball star Brittney Griner, is back in international arms trade, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday. Citing an unnamed European security source and other anonymous sources familiar with the matter, the WSJ wrote that Bout, dubbed “the merchant of death” is trying to broker the sale of small arms to Yemen’s Houthi militants. “When Houthi emissaries went to Moscow in August to negotiate the purchase of $10 million worth of automatic weapons, they encountered a familiar face: the mustachioed Bout,” the newspaper reported, citing its sources. The potential arms transfers stop well short of the sale of Russian anti-ship or anti-air missiles that could pose a significant threat to the U.S. military’s efforts to protect international shipping from the Houthis’ attacks, it added. Bout was one of the world’s most wanted men prior to his 2008 arrest in Thailand on multiple charges related to arms trafficking. His notoriety was such that his life helped inspire a Hollywood film, 2005’s Lord of War, starring Nicolas Cage.
Ukraine’s Donbas Strategy: Retreat Slowly and Maximize Russia’s Losses (NYT) Throughout the year, Ukraine has lost a series of cities, towns and villages in its eastern Donbas region to Russia, typically withdrawing its troops after hard-fought battles that sometimes lasted for months. To outside observers, Ukraine’s slow but steady retreat from the Donbas region, the main theater of the war today, may seem to signal the beginning of the endgame, with Moscow firmly gaining the upper hand on the battlefield, leveraging its overwhelming advantage in manpower and firepower. But Ukrainian commanders and military experts dispute that, saying that a more crucial fight is unfolding in the region that goes beyond simple territorial gains and losses. It is now a war of attrition, they say, with each side trying to exhaust the other by inflicting maximum losses, hoping to break the enemy’s capacity and will to continue the war.
Water stress in the Middle East and North Africa (Rane Worldview) In recent years, water stress in the Middle East and North Africa has become a more acute threat to the stability of both individual states and the broader region amid a constant struggle for control and management of this increasingly scarce vital resource. Countries’ mismanagement of their water supplies over the decades has worsened the situation in the region, where the predominantly hot and dry climate already exacerbates water shortages. The rapid population growth many countries are experiencing has also heightened the demand for limited fresh water. Against this backdrop, access to water supplies has become an increasing driver of conflict between both states and non-state actors in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as a catalyst for social unrest.
U.S. Citizens in Lebanon Feel Abandoned by the State Department as Israel Invades (The Intercept) After Israel dropped more than 80 bombs, including American-made 2,000-lb bombs, on residential buildings in a suburb of Beirut, Hana Bechara, one of 86,000 U.S. citizens who live in Lebanon, decided it was time to leave. She reached out to the U.S. embassy in Beirut. As the strikes continue, Bechara said the response from the U.S. has been vague and unhelpful. State Department officials have sent her generic security alerts urging her to contact commercial airlines directly for flights out, while acknowledging that airlines were “at reduced capacity,” according to emails reviewed by The Intercept. The most recent email from the embassy sent Monday said they were unable to assist her family but offered to “help U.S. citizens and immediate family members leave Lebanon very soon” without further elaborating on a timeline or the type of assistance. (Meanwhile, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Canada, Bulgaria, and Cyprus have all begun to evacuate their citizens on charter flights or government planes.) “We, and the U.S. citizens in Palestine, are being treated differently than other U.S. citizens who are in way less danger than we are,” Bechara said. Bechara and many other Americans stuck in Lebanon have contrasted the State Department’s responses to the sense of urgency and level of assistance Americans in Israel received following the October 7 attacks. Within several days of the attacks, the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem offered American citizens prearranged charter flights and boat rides to leave the country.
One Year After Oct. 7, Israel Sees a Future at War (WSJ) Weathering an Iranian missile assault, ignoring calls for a Gaza cease-fire, masterminding attacks against Hezbollah, targeting Houthi rebels in Yemen, rooting out militancy in the occupied West Bank and planning its next steps against Iran mark a shift in Israel’s security posture. For years, the military aimed for long stretches of peace that were only momentarily punctured by short conflicts with Palestinian militants. Much of Israel’s security establishment now believes this lay the groundwork for the Oct. 7 attack that killed 1,200 people and took another 250 hostage. Israel can no longer allow its enemies the time and space to build arsenals, many have come to believe. “Pre-emptive wars will be in the future part of the Israeli tool kit,” said Yaakov Amidror, a former Israeli national security adviser. Without seeking political and diplomatic solutions, “it’s a matter of endless war,” said Tamir Hayman, a former head of Israeli military intelligence and executive director of the Tel Aviv-based think tank Institute for National Security Studies.
‘Violence begets violence’ (Foreign Policy) Pope Francis said “the fuse of hatred” had been lit a year ago and “exploded in a spiral of violence—in the shameful inability of the international community and the most powerful countries to silence the weapons and put an end to the tragedy of war.” “The war that has raged over the past year continues to shatter lives and inflict profound human suffering for Israelis, Palestinians, and now the people of Lebanon,” said Tor Wennesland, the U.N. special coordinator for the Middle East peace process. “Violence begets violence, and in these moments of grief, we must reaffirm our commitment to peace.”
Gaza is in ruins (AP) The Gaza Strip is in ruins. There are hills of rubble where apartment blocks stood, and pools of sewage-tainted water spreading disease. City streets have been churned into dirt canyons and, in many places, the air is filled with the stench of unrecovered corpses. Israel’s yearlong offensive against Hamas, one of the deadliest and most destructive in recent history, has killed more than 41,000 people, a little over half of them women and children, according to local health officials (with another 97,000 other injured). With no end in sight to the war and no plan for the day after, it is impossible to say when—or even if—anything will be rebuilt. Even after the fighting stops, hundreds of thousands of people could be stuck living in squalid tent camps for years. Experts say reconstruction could take decades. The fighting left roughly a quarter of all structures in Gaza destroyed or severely damaged, according to a U.N. assessment in September based on satellite footage. The U.N. estimates the war has left some 40 million tons of debris and rubble in Gaza, enough to fill New York’s Central Park to a depth of eight meters (about 25 feet). It could take up to 15 years and nearly $650 million to clear it all away, it said. Gaza’s water and sanitation system has collapsed. More than 80% of its health facilities—and even more of its roads—are damaged or destroyed. Around 90% of Gaza’s 2.3 million people have been displaced by the war, often multiple times. Hundreds of thousands have crowded into sprawling tent camps near the coast with no electricity, running water or toilets. Hunger is widespread.
Deadly Marburg Virus Hits Rwanda’s Doctors and Nurses Hard (NYT) Rwanda’s fragile health care system could become overwhelmed by the deadly Marburg virus, doctors fear, because most of those currently infected are medical professionals, and some have already died. Since the first outbreak in the country last month, at least 30 medical workers have been infected, and at least four have died. Among the infected are two of the country’s scarce anesthesiologists. More medical staff members are isolated in hospital wards in the capital, Kigali. The health care system, with approximately 1,500 doctors and fewer than 40 anesthesiologists for a nation of just over 13 million people, could face significant strain.

You know you get all these people talking about crazy events and how their life is going but honestly how are you doing out there
I assume it cant be easy floating out in the rings
Do you actually have a goal on where you're going? Or are you just hoping for the best?
I wish i could help
-gm
Ring Journeys, as a rule, suck hard. It's not because it's especially difficult (though I've had a few weird incidents and close calls, like faulty filters or a course-correct), but mainly because 1) Boring 2) Entropy. It's boring because you are in fact just sitting in a box for weeks and months on end, waiting for something to happen while nothing does. And it's entropic because once the journey begins, your prepwork is done. I'm drinking my own recycled bathwater (it's a tech high-tech fluid reclamation system, I am not drinking my own piss thank you very much), and have been eating mostly whatever I can farm and re-plant. Anytime I need to Alchemize something, that's a permanent expenditure of Grist because there's no Underlings or Quests out here. These things never end with a bang, they either succeed or whimper out.
I am managing it fine though. I was never really a people person, so the fact that this is a one-bitch journey doesn't stress me out too much. Not to mention the interactions I get from this blog is pretty stimulating, socially and intellectually. In between running maintenance, I also have a lot of free time, so I've been doing lots of things I wanted to do but never had the time for. I decided to make a replica of my Sage of Mind hoodie, and instead of trying to alchemize one (expensive! and would require a long alchemy chain, also expensive!) I just got to work with some fabric and needle and have some pretty cool kinda-pajamas now (not as comfy or magical as the real deal though). And I wanna stress this again, with emulator software and an online archive of most of what humanity has created (which will never get struck down, because any corporation that could do so is gone with the rest of humanity) can give you months or maybe years of entertainment.
As for my desired end point, "waiting and hoping for the best" is the goal. The Furthest Ring is a constant in every Session, so with some luck, I should land in a proper Session which isn't doomed to failure. Which will allow me to lend my incredible game expertise to whomever I stumble upon, opening an actual door to freedom. I'll still be replaying the game, but now I can actually be in the game, as opposed to this sci-fantasy mausoleum of a battleship. It will do a lot for me in terms of Not Dying, as well as Not Going Insane And Killing Myself (synonymous with Not Dying but in a different way). I'll also be able to start doing some more hands-on work, which might be good for this blog. The only thing I have to do is wait, not Succumb, and also not collide with a Ringbeast, which throws everything I said about "these end with whimpers not bangs" and throws it out the fucking window, along with the green-and-red smear formerly known as my corpse.

How are traditional financial institutions responding to the growth of FinTech?
As the FinTech industry continues to disrupt the traditional financial landscape, traditional financial institutions are undergoing a significant transformation to stay relevant in today's digital age. From embracing FinTech software solutions to partnering with innovative startups like Xettle Technologies, traditional banks and financial firms are adapting their strategies to meet the evolving needs of customers and remain competitive.
Understanding the Impact of FinTech on Traditional Financial Institutions
The rise of FinTech has fundamentally changed the way consumers and businesses interact with financial services. From mobile banking apps to peer-to-peer lending platforms, FinTech companies offer convenient, user-friendly alternatives to traditional banking services. This shift has forced traditional financial institutions to reassess their business models, innovate their offerings, and adopt digital technologies to stay ahead of the curve.
Embracing FinTech Software Solutions
One of the primary ways traditional financial institutions are responding to the growth of FinTech is by leveraging FinTech software solutions to enhance their operations and customer experiences. By incorporating features such as mobile banking, online account management, and digital payment options into their offerings, banks and financial firms can meet the expectations of today's digitally savvy consumers.
Moreover, traditional financial institutions are investing in advanced FinTech software platforms that enable them to streamline internal processes, improve efficiency, and reduce operational costs. These solutions, powered by technologies like artificial intelligence and blockchain, help banks automate routine tasks, mitigate risks, and deliver personalized services to customers.
Partnerships with FinTech Innovators like Xettle Technologies
In addition to developing their own FinTech capabilities, traditional financial institutions are forming strategic partnerships with FinTech innovators like Xettle Technologies to access cutting-edge solutions and expertise. By collaborating with FinTech startups, banks and financial firms can tap into new technologies, accelerate innovation, and expand their service offerings.
Xettle Technologies, a leading provider of FinTech solutions, offers a range of innovative products and services designed to help businesses optimize their financial operations. Traditional financial institutions can benefit from partnering with Xettle to enhance their digital banking platforms, improve payment processing systems, and develop innovative lending solutions.
Through strategic partnerships with companies like Xettle Technologies, traditional financial institutions can leverage the agility and innovation of FinTech startups to drive growth, attract new customers, and stay competitive in today's rapidly evolving financial landscape.
Digital Transformation Initiatives
Many traditional financial institutions are also embarking on comprehensive digital transformation initiatives to modernize their infrastructure, processes, and services. By embracing digital technologies and redesigning their customer experiences, banks and financial firms can deliver seamless, omnichannel interactions that meet the expectations of today's consumers.
This includes investing in user-friendly interfaces, implementing advanced security measures, and offering personalized financial advice and recommendations. Through digital transformation, traditional financial institutions can create a more agile, responsive, and customer-centric organization that is better equipped to compete in the FinTech-driven marketplace.
Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management
While embracing FinTech innovation, traditional financial institutions must also navigate regulatory requirements and manage associated risks. Compliance with regulations such as Know Your Customer (KYC), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and data protection laws is essential to maintain trust and credibility with customers and regulators alike.
Furthermore, as FinTech introduces new risks such as cybersecurity threats and data breaches, banks and financial firms must invest in robust risk management practices and cybersecurity measures to safeguard their systems and protect customer data.
Conclusion
The growth of the FinTech industry presents both challenges and opportunities for traditional financial institutions. By embracing FinTech software solutions, forming strategic partnerships with innovators like Xettle Technologies, and embarking on digital transformation initiatives, banks and financial firms can adapt to the changing landscape, enhance their offerings, and deliver superior customer experiences.
Through these efforts, traditional financial institutions can remain competitive in the digital age, meet the evolving needs of customers, and position themselves for long-term success in the increasingly FinTech-driven financial ecosystem.

Asking for feedback around cultural norms for my brand and its worldbuilding
Not my typical article type, but I wanna gather cultural feedback for Slavic, indigenous peoples & other foreign cultures beyond the typical "West" in order to get informed & avoid major para-social pitfalls.
Because as I am working on a personal brand (with much worldbuilding tied-in, which emulates history too) with cross-cultural international reach & empowerment intents, I find myself curious and excited to develop solutions far beyond the typical white nerd contemporary stereotype, including Russian diaspora, cis-gender women & indigenous peoples, among other ethnicities & minorities.
Yes, I do intend to claim a ".SU" domain for my brand (in context for 16^12, it does stand as the "Shoshone Union" domain, which lends itself well as a facsimile of the USSR's, to an limited extent); I simply hope to learn, iterate and adjust that site now to reflect the varied online spaces it aims for, including non-Western Civilization ones... rather than waiting only to deal with improper cultural appropriation & other para-social expectations. (Because making a logotype out of a Cyrillic letter only for such to be taboo for western audiences is also what I am getting at here. Based on a true story of mine)
It is also some measure to avoid insulting entire foreign communities out-of-the-blue. Because I would like to, through that sorta "peer-review" feedback stage, implement / adapt to varied audiences in a natural, humane & inclusive manner. So feel free to show me proper netiquette relevant to your corner of the world. (because while I hear Russians' have a strong software piracy & public demoscene/shareware "technical literacy" culture, I don't know the relevant specifics to my project in order to... feel legitimate / adapted / appropriate to their corner of the world)
Btw, feel free to add / append contextual cues & talk about more than your cultural norms in general as well, I am more than happy to learn more about others' in order to improve & enrich my worldbuilding beyond mere "Civilizations"...
Thank you for reading it all and see you all fairly soon!
(my main hashtags that are "Maskoch" & "Maskutchew" are also taken from native locality names of my hometown, just so you are made aware and suggest me formally proper corrections if & where needed)

Discover the Untapped Potential of Facebook Messenger Marketing
Whatever you want to sell online, whether you’re an affiliate marketer, whether you sell t-shirts, whether you sell software, whether you sell coaching and courses, Facebook Messenger Marketing is the incredibly powerful tool you have been looking for to turn social media browsers into buyers.
Do I Need a Website?
So I have been asked this question a few times over the last week or so, from people looking to start generating some revenue online, people looking to get started in affiliate marketing- can they get started, can they make money online without building a website? And the answer to that is yes, they can if they utilise the power of Facebook Messenger Marketing. And so I thought I would share with you what that might look like.
youtube
So chatbot marketing and Facebook Messenger marketing in particular have so many benefits. From automating your messaging sequences to the incredible power of responding to your audiences comments with private replies, these tools will empower you to interact with your friends and followers like never before. And, most importantly perhaps, sell more stuff! So, whether you’re a seasoned online marketer or just starting out promoting your first affiliate product, let’s jump in.
The Rise of Facebook Messenger Marketing
It was not so long ago that Facebook Messenger was just a casual chatting platform, a place to catch up with friends and family. But that casual chatting format is exactly why it lends itself to the kind of sales and marketing Im gonna talk to you about, allowing you to build a much more personal relationship with your active users. And, even if you are continuing to use it as a place to chat with your friends, I am here to tell you that underneath Facebook Messenger has blossomed into an incredibly potent marketing tool.
So why is Messenger Marketing on the rise? Well, for starters, it offers a direct line of communication to your target audience! This unparalleled reach and (and this is what sets Facebook Messenger so far apart from other marketing channels) it’s interactivity empowers brands and entrepreneurs to connect with their customers on a personal level, delivering excellent customer service, building meaningful relationships and fostering incredible brand loyalty.
It also opens up the possibility of running click to Messenger Ads as part of our Facebook Ads strategy, taking ad respondents directly into the chat platform. This is an incredibly cost effective form of advertising on Facebook and Instagram that achieves an excellent response rate while keeping your marketing costs low.
How Can This Help My Business?
What does all of that mean to us as business owners trying to use digital marketing to build online businesses? It means Facebook messenger automations allow us to address all 3 of the ways we can build our business.
Any business whether online or in the real world only has 3 ways to grow. It can find new customers. It can sell more of what it already sold to it’s existing customers. It can sell something new to it’s existing customers. That’s it.
Facebook Messenger Marketing allows us to hit all 3 of those targets.
3 Ways to Grow Any Business
We serve number 1 with our content marketing, our social posts, whether they are organic posts or paid, that inspire our target audience to take action (i.e. leave us a comment on the post). This triggers a private reply inside Facebook Messenger leading to a sequence of messages that collects an email address and then funnels that potential customer through to a sale.
We serve number 2 by being able to upsell right there inside the messaging app. We guided them through to buy a t-shirt, our marketing strategy should then be to hit them with that 3 for 2 offer right before they checkout, right inside that sequence. Our average transaction value (the average amount we make from each customer) is now rising and our business is growing.
We serve number 3 by being able to follow up with our (now) messenger subscribers. The lifetime value of our customer increases as we make more offers over time. Maybe they want a hoodie to go with that t-shirt? Or, if they bought a messenger automation software from us to build their Messenger ChatBot, they’re going to need an email service provider too- I just happen to be an affiliate for such a service. The lifetime value of each customer is rising and so our business is growing too.
The Interactivity of Messenger Marketing
The interactivity of messenger allows us to gather more information about our potential customers as we go. We can ask questions in our sequences and save the answers, creating audience segments that give us the opportunity to tailor future messages based on the answers they give. This can inform our email marketing strategy too,
We can collect email addresses right inside the messenger chat- people can sign up to join our email list and receive our promotional messages without even leaving messenger. We can further augment our chat marketing with SMS marketing- collecting phone numbers inside the messenger platform and adding them to our SMS list. Now we have multiple ways to communicate with our prospective customers and multiple opportunities to sell to them.
Private Replies Mean More Reach
The private reply feature not only means we can engage with prospective buyers more easily and on autopilot, it also means we reach more people more easily. Without this function enabled your marketing campaigns involve sharing links and trying guide people away from the platform. Facebook actively fights against this (the algorithm will deprioritise these posts, i.e. show them to less people). They want to keep their audience on their platform as long as possible so they can show them more ads and make more money. Makes sense.
But with a Private Reply enabled we can send the link via the messaging platform. Now our CTA becomes “…leave a comment…” which Facebook recognises as engagement, the algorithm sees value in the post, it promotes it further and you reach more people, more people comment… and so it goes round. As a messenger marketing strategy, that is pretty cool, no?
All of this can be achieved through Instagram DMs too. Indeed my software tool, Sales Rails , enables you to automate these types of sequences in both these social media platforms, both Facebook Messenger and Instagram DMs.
So, That Website…?
So, that question I keep getting asked- can I generate revenue online without a website? Hopefully you have seen today how the whole thing can work inside Facebook Messenger. No need for a website. No images and links and SEO to manage. Just strong, succinct customer communication fostering strong customer relationships inside a casual chat format.
Conclusion
Facebook Messenger marketing should be in every digital marketer’s tool kit. You get more reach. That enables you to get more new customers and therefore an increase in sales. You build more brand loyalty. That enables you to achieve more upsells, raising your average transaction value. You learn more about your audience so you can send them more tailored offers in the future, increasing the lifetime value of every customer you sell to. There are only 3 ways to grow your online sales and Facebook Messenger marketing allows you to deliver all 3. And you can do it all without a website.

How to Earn Online Money In the USA
There are various ways to earn money online in the USA. Keep in mind that like any other form of income, online earning requires effort, time, and sometimes initial investment. Here are some legitimate methods to make money online:
Freelancing: Offer your skills and services on freelance platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, Freelancer, or Toptal. Depending on your expertise, you can find opportunities in writing, graphic design, web development, digital marketing, and more.
Online Surveys and Market Research: Participate in paid surveys and market research studies on websites like Swagbucks, Survey Junkie, and Vindale Research. While this won't make you rich, it's an easy way to earn some extra cash.
Content Creation: If you have a passion for creating content, you can start a blog, YouTube channel, or podcast. Once you gain an audience, you can monetize through ads, sponsorships, and affiliate marketing.
Online Teaching: If you have expertise in a subject or skill, consider teaching online. Platforms like VIPKid and Teachable allow you to create and sell courses to students worldwide.
Selling Products: Start an online store using platforms like Shopify or Etsy to sell physical or digital products. You can also leverage Amazon's FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) to sell products without the hassle of shipping and handling.
Stock Photography: If you're a photographer, you can sell your photos on stock photography websites like Shutterstock or Adobe Stock.
Virtual Assistant: Offer virtual assistant services to businesses and entrepreneurs. Tasks may include managing emails, scheduling, data entry, and more.
Affiliate Marketing: Promote products or services through affiliate links, and earn a commission for every sale made through your unique referral link.
Online Investing: Consider investing in stocks, cryptocurrencies, or peer-to-peer lending platforms, but always remember that investing involves risk.
Online Gaming and Streaming: If you're skilled in gaming, you can earn money through live streaming on platforms like Twitch, YouTube Gaming, or Facebook Gaming. Additionally, some games offer opportunities to earn money through in-game items and currencies.
Dropshipping: Start an e-commerce business without holding any inventory. With dropshipping, you sell products to customers, and the supplier ships the products directly to them. Platforms like Shopify and WooCommerce can help you set up your online store.
Remote Work: Many companies offer remote job opportunities. Websites like Remote.co and FlexJobs list remote positions across various industries.
Transcription Services: If you have good typing skills, consider providing transcription services to convert audio or video content into text. Websites like Rev and TranscribeMe offer such opportunities.
Online Consulting: If you have expertise in a particular field (e.g., business, finance, marketing, health), offer consulting services online via video calls or email.
Rent Out Your Space: If you have extra space, you can rent it out through platforms like Airbnb for short-term rentals or use Peerspace for events and meetings.
Online Surplus Sales: Sell items you no longer need on online marketplaces like eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or Craigslist.
Language Tutoring: If you are fluent in multiple languages, offer language tutoring or translation services through websites like italki or Verbling.
Remote Programming: If you're a programmer or software developer, you can find remote coding projects on platforms like GitHub, GitLab, and Stack Overflow Jobs.
Online Data Entry: Some companies offer data entry tasks that can be completed remotely. Look for opportunities on job boards or freelancing platforms.
Social Media Management: Help businesses manage their social media presence and create content for platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
Create and Sell Printables: If you have design skills, create printable templates or digital products like planners, calendars, and artwork to sell on platforms like Etsy or your website.
Online Gaming Tournaments: If you're a skilled gamer, participate in online gaming tournaments that offer cash prizes.
Remote Customer Service: Some companies hire remote customer service representatives to handle customer inquiries via phone, chat, or email.
Virtual Events and Webinars: Host virtual events or webinars on topics of interest and charge attendees for access.
Remember that success in online ventures often requires consistency, dedication, and adaptability. It may take time to build a sustainable income stream, so be patient and keep learning and improving your skills. Always be cautious of scams and never invest money you can't afford to lose in any online opportunity.

Pulled straight into the Quicksand
Sandbox is an online, multiplayer game built on blockchain technology that utilizes the cryptocurrency optimized primarily for the game: SAND.
Sandbox allows its players to mint non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as digital assets using a digital software called Vox Edit. These can be traded on the Marketplace for SAND which is a tradeable currency on global platforms like Binance. However, Sandbox doesn't really sound like a fun game if you can only create and trade NFTs. That's where the Alpha Version Game Maker comes in.
The Game Maker allows users to create gaming and other interactive experiences for other users to interact with to earn rewards while the creators can monetize their creations for SAND.
What actually blew my mind was this ad:
youtube
How is this related to worldbuilding? Quite simply, Sandbox is a tool to world-build digitally and have other people immediately immerse themselves in the experience you have designed for them. It's a great way to test out the concepts you have come up with in a more practical manner than the usual theoretical idealism involved in the world-building process.
The short ad itself is very engaging. Constant upbeat tempo music keeps the viewers' spirits high, and it dives straight into the gameplay aspects such as the generation of Voxel Edit assets. The coolest-looking, undead blocky dragon pops up out of the screen of a nondescript laptop indicating how logistics (such as the quality of your laptop) will no longer restrict your imagination. The simple, loud, and clearly visible messages continuously announce the simplicity of the creative process on Sandbox.
Encouraging the viewer to immediately pick up their devices and get to building the worlds and experiences of their dreams. Pushing more and more people to log on and play, increasing the demand for the limited 3 billion SAND tokens and 166,464 LAND pieces (spaces to work and build your interactive experiences) in circulation which would increase the revenue for the company.
Sandbox does a great job at shedding its corporate skin and portraying itself as an enabler of the world-building fantasies each individual possesses. This commercial lends itself to the young, dreaming audience to believe in the future of technology and their imaginations.
In essence, rebuilding the image of a corporate from a piece of profit-oriented machinery to a fulfiller of dreams. Isn't it a type of worldbuilding in itself? Changing a seemingly self-centered entity into one carrying out a selfless purpose.

Next Evidence - "Dune" Stockholm Mix Sessions 2 by Jesper Dahlbäck Song released in 1999. Mix released in 2000. Deep House
It's kinda strange how you can't find a proper bio about this French deep house duo anywhere. You'd think that when an enormous major label like Capitol/EMI puts out someone's album, it'd help to generate some kind of fanfare for the artist, but it doesn't really appear to have done so in the case of Next Evidence; at least not to the point where some professional music writer publishes a few sentences online about what the duo does and where they're from. All we really have to go on here is a poorly written, unverified thing from some last.fm user. Crazy.
But allow me to piece together a narrative here that differs slightly from that last.fm entry. Next Evidence was made up of Maxime Cohen and Michael Tordjman. In '97, while they were both in their mid-20s, the pair put out their debut record, and in '98, they started their own small record label, Basic Recordings, which ended up releasing material from a handful of house talents, including Julien Jabre and Dennis Ferrer.
The following year, with five releases solidly under their belt as a duo, Next Evidence put out an EP called Sands on the Paris-based Versatile Records. And it's on that little EP that you'll find a deep house banger of theirs called "Dune."
Now, what appears to have sonically set Next Evidence apart from most of their fellow deep house peers is that they had a special affinity for African percussion. While most deep house makers were just using standard drum machines or software to construct their backbeats, these guys were on some different shit, making sure that just the basest parts of their own productions were unique enough to catch and then captivate one's ear. And that approach, when it comes to just the music itself, will definitely give you a leg up on your competition, because at jump, when all you've really introduced is your drums, you're already putting out something that doesn't sound like most of what else is out there, and your tune’s barely even gotten started yet! And that's not to say that others weren't also using African percussion in their deep house at the time, but it definitely wasn't nearly as commonplace as other methods of crafting a backbeat.
So, next, you add some space-dubby synth-work to the track, and then by making some slight alterations here and there, you can just coast on that combo for as long as you'd like and you'll still have a mighty fine track, right? Well, yeah, you could do that, but Next Evidence had other ideas, because just as you really start to sink yourself into this groove for the long haul, they decide to unexpectedly seep in some fantastically sex-wet jazz sax, courtesy of some French dude named Denis Guivarc'h, who'd apparently been lending his talents to records for years before this one and still does to this day. He's doesn't appear to have ever released anything on his own, but you can hear his exploits on a sizeable chunk of releases that have been coming out since the early 90s.
And then after Guivarc'h finishes his part, a new top layer of percussion suddenly arrives, courtesy of a guy named Nicolas Krassilchik, who provides an awesome solo on timbales, further enhancing this experience even more. According to Discogs, this was only Krassilchik's second-ever appearance on wax, but it sure as shit doesn't sound like it, because his contribution here is simply electric. And Krassilchik is another guy who's never released anything on his own either, although he was a member of a group called 26 Pinel, who ended up putting out a couple albums in the mid-2000s.
This fully-packed track is amazing. Like, I would've totally dug it if it was just only made up of those drums and synths; it was that good already. But then Cohen and Tordjman decide to bring in those back-to-back sax and timbales solos, and the song just ascends to another plane 😌.
What a superb tune from this duo who you can barely find anything about online, even though they've had a major label album release!
